On a road trip, fuel is the cost everyone feels — and the car owner often pays alone. Splitting gas, diesel, charging, and tolls fairly stops one person from subsidizing the tour.
What you should split
- Fuel or charging for shared kilometers
- Tolls, vignettes, ferries
- Parking at shared stops
- Optional: a wear stipend for using someone’s car (if agreed)
Usually do not split: one person’s fines, private detours, snacks only for the driver.

Some groups add €0.05–€0.10 per km for the car (tires, maintenance). That is an agreement, not a rule. Without agreement, share fuel + tolls only.
